UNIVERSAL CITY (CBS) — Universal Pictures announced Monday that the studio reached $1 billion in box office sales this year.
The historic milestone has come three months earlier than any other time in history.
Before now, the earliest Universal had reached this mark was on Nov. 7, 2008.
That year still holds up as the highest grossing year in Universal’s history.
The studio believes, with this year’s numbers, that record is likely to be broken.
Films like “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax”, “Ted”, “Safe House”, and “Snow White and the Huntsman” contributed to the studio’s record-setting pace.
Universal is expected to release “The Bourne Legacy”, “This Is 40”, and “Les Miserables” later this year.
