Family Saves 80-Year-Old Pasadena Woman From Alleged Rapist

SOUTH PASADENA (CBS) — An 80-year-old woman Monday was allegedly nearly raped by a parolee until family members interrupted the assault.

The incident happened at 7:40 a.m. in the 1000 block of Indiana Avenue.

That’s when a 51-year-old parolee came to the victim’s door and asked to charge his cellphone.

When the woman told him to leave, the suspect threatened to kill her with a kitchen knife. He allegedly forced her into a bedroom and attempted to tie her hands behind her back while beating her.

Police report family members saved the elderly women when they came home and startled the intruder, who fled the scene.

The suspect was captured in the 5100 block of Huntington Drive in Los Angeles.

He was booked at Los Angeles County Jail on suspicion of multiple crimes, including attempted murder and burglary.

The man has “a significant violent criminal past,” according to a South Pasadena police statement.

The victim was treated at a local hospital.
