Thieves Target Orange Elementary School

ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are investigating the overnight theft of 15 circuit breakers at an Orange County elementary school.

The theft at West Orange Elementary School, 243 S. Bush Street, took place around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Orange police said.

An alarm alerted an Orange Unified School District security guard who arrived within minutes to see one suspect fleeing the school.

Police initially thought the suspects stole copper from the school’s air conditioning system, but it was later determined they only targeted the circuit breakers.

The breakers are valued at around $50 each, resulting in a loss of approximately $750 for the school, police said.

The thefts left the school without power, however classes are scheduled to resume as normal Monday morning.
