Tea Party Group Rallies To Support Chick-fil-A’s Anti-Gay Marriage Stance

NORTHRIDGE (CBS) — A rally was held Wednesday morning at a San Fernando  Valley Chick-fil-A restaurant to show support for the chain’s recent remarks regarding their stance on gay marriage.

The San Fernando Valley Patriots, an affiliate of the national Tea Party, will hold the rally and eat breakfast at 7 a.m. at the restaurant in the 8800 block of Tampa Avenue.

August 1 marks the unofficial “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.” Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee called for the day when the chain’s President, Dan Cathy, said publicly he doesn’t support same-sex marriage.

Cathy said he believes in a biblical interpretation of marriage as between a man and a woman.

Chick-fil-A says it also has a history of applying Biblical principles to its business, such as closing stores on Sundays.

The chain also reportedly donated millions to anti-gay groups in recent years, according to Equality Matters.

Last week, a gay rights group protested the grand opening of a Laguna Hills location.

Gay and lesbian supporters have planned a counter-protest for Wednesday. They are asking supporters to donate the cost of a Chick-fil-A meal to their organizations.

A larger nationwide protest is planned for Friday, which has been deemed National Same Sex Kiss Day. Participants will be urged to take photos at Chick-fil-A locations and post them online.
