Lecture Series Geared Towards Educators

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES -Downtown-based lecture group Town Hall Los Angeles is hosting a half-day conference on education technology and its influence on the learning environment on Aug. 18.

The 8 a.m. conference is the third in a series of lectures called “Full STEAM Ahead” geared towards K-12 public school teachers in science, math, technology, engineering and the arts.

The Saturday morning event at the Millennium Biltmore will focus on how to best build student creativity through education technology with the goal of eventually strengthening Southern California’s economy.

Saturday’s keynote speaker is education expert Dr. Yong Zhou from the University of Oregon. He will discuss how to cultivate independent thinkers who can use their skills differently to create jobs.

After his lecture, Zhou will sign copies of his new book, “World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students,” published by Corwin Press, the conference’s other sponsor.

The event also features a panel discussion with several education administrators and policy-makers.

The conference is from 8 a.m. to noon at the Millennium Biltmore Los Angeles at 506 S. Grand Ave. Tickets are free for K-12 public teachers and administrators and $100 for the public. For tickets call (213) 628-8141 or go to townhall-la.org.
