DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - Things are a lot greener at Seventh and Figueroa streets.

Brookfield Office Properties recently announced that Ernst & Young Plaza has received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum status, the highest certification for an existing building. The designation for the office tower at 725 S. Figueroa St. came from the U.S. Green Building Council. “This achievement reinforces Brookfield’s commitment to sustainability and its customers,” said Paul Schulman, Brookfield’s U.S. chief operating officer, in a statement. “This certification shows the tremendous work and dedication of our Los Angeles team to obtain top distinction for its properties.” Some of the upgrades undertaken to achieve the LEED status include lighting retrofits, moves to reduce water consumption and improvements to the roof deck to lower building heat. The 41-story 1.2 million-square-foot property earned 90 points on a 100-point scale used for certification.
