LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The L.A. City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to name a Hollywood intersection after a slain Los Angeles police officer.
Ian Campbell and his partner, Karl Hettinger, were kidnapped by two robbers at gunpoint at the intersection of Carlos Avenue and Gower Street in March 1963.
Campbell was later murdered in an onion field near Bakersfield. Hettinger managed to escape.
The infamous crime became the subject of a book and movie.
The killers were sentenced to life in prison.
The council voted to rename the intersection of Carlos and Gower as “Ian Campbell Square.”
A ceremony will be held to unveil the sign on Aug. 17.
