LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine, is speaking out for the first time Wednesday since last weekend’s wild disappearance rumors.
The 82-year-old, surrounded by Rebbie, Janet and Jermaine Jackson, spoke with ABC’s Nightline from a resort in Tucson, Arizona.
“I’m devastated that my grandchildren were taken away from me today,” she said.
The matriarch’s strange disappearance Sunday left her three grandchildren, Paris, Prince, and Blanket, pleading for the public’s help in locating her.
On Wednesday, TJ Jackson, Tito Jackson’s 34-year-old son, was awarded temporary guardianship of Michael’s kids, even though Katherine called the children and said that didn’t need to happen.
Since the popstar’s death, the siblings have been living with Katherine in her Calabasas estate. The same home that Janet Jackson and 14-year-old Paris had a confrontation a few days ago.
The Insider’s Kevin Frazier said he thinks people believe the situation is about Michael’s estate, but it’s more than that.
“It’s also a family feud,” he said. “Tito’s son gets temporary custody of the children, but as soon as Mrs. Jackson steps foot back in California, the custody reverts back to her…so it’s interesting because it’s something that didn’t have to happen.”
Paris, who has been vocal on Twitter saying her grandmother was missing, posted a picture of herself Wednesday wearing a shirt with her father’s face on it. She said, “black or white is rockkk.”
