LOS ANGELES (CBS) — About a dozen inmates were injured Wednesday at the Twin Towers jail complex in downtown Los Angeles during an inmate riot, according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Capt. Mike Parker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says the riot involved 75 inmates and began at about 3:30 p.m.
Law enforcement officers used pepperspray and stingballs to stop the melee, according to Parker.
The Los Angeles Times reports inmates “squared off along racial lines.”
Paramedics responded to reports of some unrest among inmates at about 4:20 p.m. The county jail complex is located at 450 E. Bauchet St.
The injuries were all non-life threatening according to Scott.
